ABSTRACT

Parents of twins will benefit from hearing about other couples’ experiences in the early weeks and months with their twins, and the educator can invite a mother and/or father from the local Twins Group to visit. Educators may prefer to include mothers and fathers expecting two babies in their regular groups to avoid their feeling that having twins lies outside the normal experience of the transition to parenthood. Practising different ways of holding a baby for breastfeeding is helpful for couples expecting twins as it is for other parents in the group. The educator can encourage the visitors to talk about topics that will be relevant to all the parents in the group, such as strategies for getting enough sleep, and topics particularly relevant to the twins’ parents, such as whether to sleep the babies in the same cot or separately.
