ABSTRACT

Interconception education is one precious opportunity for education for birth and early parenting. The woman and her partner have lived experience to draw upon when reflecting on how they would like their next baby to be born and how they would like to parent him or her. The future mother and father are, in fact, being prepared for parenting from their own birth onwards. The earliest relationships they have with their parents and principal carers create the template for how they will themselves parent when their time comes. While initiatives to secure better pregnancies and parenting for the next generation of babies are laudable, their impact will be limited if they remain local and dependent on the drive and commitment of individual practitioners.
