It is always difficult for a poet to talk about his poetry. He has written a poem. A comparatively easier task for him than speaking about it. My creative writing teacher at Purdue used to quote Eliot to me: ‘There is a difference between the heart that suffers and the hand that writes.’ What then is gay poetry? Some generalisations can be made from the practice.
