ABSTRACT
To reach Jhargram from Midnapore the most direct way is to take the National Highway until the people reach Lodhasuli where they turn right onto the State Highway. Upon reaching the block headquarters at about noon with the SDO, Jhargram, the author examined the cash book and other registers, collected some basic figures of the block and then drove on to Banspahari, the north-western extremity of the district. Banspahari, Bhulaveda and Simulpal are the three disturbed Gram Panchayats of this block; LWEs are known to be active. From the ensuing discussion it emerged that the Mobile Health Unit that was supposed to visit six places in the three affected Gram Panchayats had become irregular; the principal reason for this was the absence of a doctor. There is a Krishi Bikash Kendra at Kapgari in Jamboni Block which is also quite well staffed and can be utilised for training and extension purposes in the area.
