Floundering at University book
Canterbury University College was something of a relief after the rigours of boarding school, but my early university career was fragmented, with a year as an engineering student before switching to science and arts. I switched to Victoria University College, completing a BSc and an MSc in mathematics. This led to employment in an insurance firm with the intent of becoming an actuary, but this was short-lived. I found employment in the Public Service as a research officer in Child Welfare, then a subsection of the Education Department, and was seconded to a national review of education. Given a choice of career between education and psychology, I began to see that it was psychology that held my interest.
