ABSTRACT

As students’ most trusted role models, parents also need to take responsibility for helping their children recognize misinformation. However, many parents look to their child’s school for help in this area because they lack the skills necessary to accurately identify misinformation. Educators must step up to help students and parents expand their knowledge and understanding of civics and information literacy. Teachers can opt to model responsible citizenship and information literacy skills every day within the context of whatever content skills are being taught. This book helps educators identify key information literacy skills to present in one activity and then incorporate on an ongoing basis. It does this by offering foundational information with an accompanying self-contained activity that can be used as is or modified to meet specific local needs. These concepts may be taught in any order and aligned with existing curricula.
