ABSTRACT
This book provides guidance to educators who want to increase their own abilities to differentiate between fact and fiction in the media as well as guide their students toward becoming well-informed consumers of media in its many formats. It has stuck to two broad areas—assessing words and assessing number. Within each of these areas, the book provides five activities per area that are accessible and applicable across content areas. This approach is designed to ensure that educators are able to incorporate these suggestions as instructional strategies rather than becoming even more content to squeeze into an already overcrowded instructional calendar. The Marzano Compendium of Instructional Strategies includes a category called Structured Practice Sessions which goes beyond rote practice of a newly learned skill or strategy. Modeling strategies that can help someone recognize disinformation does not necessarily require a lot of advance planning.
