This chapter explores decisions children and young people are likely to make during the course of their education, introducing the education professional’s role in developing, supporting and enabling children and young people’s decision-making. Actually, it is parents who choose their child’s education institutions until their child has completed Year 11. To illustrate the ways in which education professionals can support and enable children and young people to participate in decision making, the discussion will focus on choosing a new education institution. Since attending Bonaire Academy Special School Zsofia has made progress with her self-care skills. She can dress and undress herself, but she needs assistance with buttons, zips and shoe laces. Education professionals continue to have a role supporting parents, but it is to explain that their son or daughter should be making their own choices and be empowered to participate in decision-making.
