ABSTRACT

For a lot of people, summer weekends while they are in their twenties seem like an endless stream of bachelor/bachelorette parties and weddings. Ryan was the first of his group to marry at age 24, and so he and his best man arranged a four-day reunion cruise for all the friends on a houseboat in the Illinois River. Ryan had a secret agenda: if they were in the middle of the river, it would be impossible for someone to drag him to a strip club, which is, of course, an all-too-frequent standard activity for a bachelor party. Ryan’s plan to avoid the strip club worked perfectly the first of the four nights, but he had forgotten that the boat had to be docked every evening to keep it from running into something, and on the second night, they put ashore in what he described as “middle of nowhere Illinois.”.
