ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the research about the therapeutic benefits that autistics can obtain from mindfulness programs and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). It begins with a brief overview of mindfulness, including interoception, and then examines the contents of several studies about the efficacy of mindfulness and interoception for autistics. The support’s efficacy for autistics is then rated followed by several recommendations for research in the future. The contents in studies about the efficacy of CBT for autistics is then examined, followed by a rating of the efficacy of CBT for autistics and several recommendations for where research can be conducted in the future. After presenting these recommendations this chapter presents some views and experiences about mindfulness programs and CBT from a group of autistics.
