ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the literature about the efficacy of animal-assisted programs for autistics. It begins with an overview of the literature about the therapeutic value of dogs for autistics, followed by our evaluation of this as well as our recommendations for where more research can be conducted. The insights from autistics who completed our survey about the benefits they obtained after interacting with dogs completes this section. The same sequence of topics is then used for equine assisted therapies. This chapter concludes with insights from autistics who completed our survey about the efficacy of interacting with animals in general.
