ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 travels outside the Nordic region and analyzes the conspiratorial images about the Nordic countries found in neighbouring countries. Largely leaning on the Nordic region’s own repertoire of conspiracy theories, these stories at the same time contribute to creating a particular reputation for the different Nordic countries: the state orchestrating the deterioration of family and sexual norms in Norway, masterminding migration crisis in Sweden, and promoting bestiality in Denmark; the conspiracy theories about Finland and Iceland have an auxiliary role supporting these tropes. The chapter investigates the most resonating conspiracy narratives about the Nordics, the reasons for their emergence, the means for their distribution, and their impact worldwide.
