ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I present the findings from interviews conducted with women who were in immigration detention at the time of interview. I explore the facets of immigration removal centres which women identified as affecting their sense of dignity. The areas for discussion are focused around the ways in which women feel criminalised and vilified by their time in these institutions. The unjust nature of detention described by women will be another focal point, alongside the indifference they described in their dealings with the Home Office.
