ABSTRACT

This chapter is about looking at sources of meaning in detail. You will learn which sources of meaning have the strongest potential for creating meaning; generativity particularly stands out here. Moreover, relationships of the breadth, diversity and depth of sources of meaning with the experience of meaningfulness will be discussed. To understand more about the way sources of meaning are being lived and expressed, we asked various people to tell us how their most prominent sources of meaning impacted their daily lives. Finally, the specific role of religiosity and spirituality as sources of meaning are considered, with further discourse on the question of secular meaning-making.
