ABSTRACT

The largest and most well-known of the American theatrical organizations is Broadway. Broadway is a high-budget theatrical machine located in the theatre district of New York city that produces many new works and revivals each year. “The Broadway league,” a national trade association, works as a bargaining representative with the producers and theatre owners to negotiate collective bargaining agreements for the many theatrical unions that work within a Broadway theatre. Many assistant lighting designers find that their personal and paperwork skills may translate over to other disciplines within theatre—especially working as an assistant projection/video designer. A bus and truck production is a cost-saving tour with further reduced technical elements. Some shows skip the national tour step altogether and move directly into the bus and truck stage. Additionally, international productions may be “licensed”—signifying that an international company has purchased the rights to the entire production and its design elements.
