ABSTRACT

For commercial theatre, Melbourne and Sydney are the hub, producing commercial Australian productions like musicals and other large-scale events as well as hosting international productions, such as musicals from Broadway and the west end. Working in continental Europe is as varied as the cultures therein. Each culture has its own unique history, and its own working identity. Germany and Austria are also known for the tradition of Stadttheater (City Theatre)—repertory houses in larger towns and cities—which perform a mix of drama, opera, dance, and musicals. Within Japanese culture, hierarchy is a very important construct. It is based in the strong cultural institution of respect for our elders and a sense of order. Therefore, when discussing ideas or needs with the crew, make sure a lead is present. Historically, Japanese culture dictates that decisions be made by the highest-ranking person in a position of business.
