ABSTRACT

The lighting world is an exciting tinderbox of opportunities for assistant-types. As a freelance assistant lighting designer, chances are the peoples may find ourself working in a variety of industries related to theatre including television, architectural lighting, museum design, dance, industrials, concerts, cruise ships, award shows, film, and themed entertainment just to name a few. As for the paperwork side of things, because television is lit more by scene than by system, a ground plan-style magic sheet is common, which shows where the individual fixtures focus on the ground plan (combined with moving light placements), as well as scenic magic sheets. “Industrials” is a term that describes a broad spectrum of business theatre, also called corporate theatre. Annually thousands of events are produced by the corporations and independent companies ranging from “small, single-speaker, audio-visually enhanced events, to large-scale, multi-million-dollar productions.
