ABSTRACT
Most assistant lighting design jobs in the United States are considered freelance positions. A freelancer is someone who is self-employed and considered an independent contractor by the IRS. A freelancer is not a full-time employee of any particular entity, but instead is self-employed and moves from job to job without a steady paycheck. Social media is important for creating an online presence, building our platform, and developing our brand. It is also a quick way to remind colleagues of our work and stay fresh in their minds in case opportunities arise. Sometimes while freelancing, finding in-between gigs can help pay the bills during slower times. The key is to find something the peoples like with a flexible schedule so that they can pause that employment in order to resume lighting work. Working as an independent contractor may seem daunting at first, but the required tasks will eventually become automatic.
