ABSTRACT

The designer may have been meeting about the project for a long time, but during the prep weeks is when the design begins to be created and documented in a concrete manner. An out-of-town try-out is relatively the same as a Broadway scenario, but one of the prep weeks may cover the site survey. During prep, the set electrics specifications, or “set elex package,” needs to be submitted. The set elex package is usually completed earlier than the lighting package because the cost of the electrics must be factored into the scenic bid. The follow spot assistant creates the follow spot design to work in harmony with the overall lighting design and supports the intention of the designer. They decide pick-ups, color, intensity, fade times, etc. and execute the design by calling the follow spots to the operators during tech and previews.
