ABSTRACT

Of all of the disciplines of theatrical design, projection design is the newest addition to the club. As a result, even seasoned theatre artists may be uninformed about the nature of projection design and how to collaborate with a projection designer. As a designer and an educator, I wanted to give the reader access to some of the “insider secrets” of those working in the field, from small professional theatres up to Broadway and beyond. With this in mind, I set out to write a book that combined my own observations about the projection design process together with a series of interviews from a wide range of professionals in projection design: from designers and assistants to programmers and system engineers. As such, the book would offer instruction on process and a series of case studies on what it means to be working as a projection designer in this particular time period.
