ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 covers many concerns related to designing a video system. It begins with a series of questions such as: Who is designing the system? What type of system is required for the job? What does the system need to accomplish? What are your resources? What media server is required? Once these questions are addressed, the chapter moves on to discuss selecting display devices, with a focus on such areas are projection surfaces, selecting a projector and accessories, as well as emissive displays. Finally, the chapter addresses interactivity as an element of the video system and some gear that might be required, such as cameras, audio devices, and encoders and markers. Field research is also included, featuring an interview with projection designer David Bengali and system designer/engineer Chet Miller, who discuss their collaboration on the projection design for We Live in Cairo at A.R.T.
