ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses digital media and the many ways it might be used as content for a projection design. Beginning with the fundamentals, it addresses the basics of measuring data through bits and bytes as well as understanding pixels and resolution, commonly used resolutions, aspect ratios, and pixel counts. In addition, it introduces subtractive and additive color-mixing theories as well as color management through color models, color spaces, and profiles. The second section of the chapter covers a wide variety of content types and workflow considerations, starting with still imagery and then addressing 3D modeling, 2D animation, and video imagery. Included here are discussions of common file types, digital video file formats, codecs, video editing basics, and rendering considerations.
