ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the designer’s process, from preparing for technical rehearsals past the point of opening night. The first section covers the process of preparing for technical rehearsals, from load-in through focus, fine-tuning projectors and addressing image warping/projection mapping, masking, programming the media server, training operators, and working with other control systems. Moving on from this point, the next focus is on the tech process and the many different methods that might be employed at different venues. Finally, the chapter emphasizes previews, opening night, and beyond, covering such issues as the preview process, documenting and archiving the design, and production reports. Field research is also included, featuring an interview with media designer Matthew Ragan.
