ABSTRACT
Adam Smith lived through and was part of the Scottish Enlightenment. The Scottish Enlightenment was an intellectual and cultural movement that took place during an economic boom. Intellectually it was characterized by the study of science, being it natural science or “the science of man”: the application of the scientific method to the study of humankind.
