ABSTRACT

This is the fourth chapter to present a range of strategies for further education teachers wishing to develop resilience. The chapter explores the interplay between aspirations and target-driven goals. It advocates the setting of goals as a means for teachers to establish a focus and sustain motivation. Goals are seen to provide a clear guide to how the outcomes should look and thus steer the individual towards achieving them. It is therefore argued that goals develop confidence and contribute strongly to the building of resilience. It is also recommended that teachers willing to develop resilience should challenge themselves in order to strengthen the credibility of their position. In this way, poor decision-making and unreasonable workloads can be resisted confidently. The chapter concludes with some tips for becoming resilient.
