ABSTRACT
This chapter is a case study based on resilience and is told through the eyes of Amelie who works in a further education college. Amelie narrates a series of tragic events that began with the death of her father when she was just nine years old. She describes the impact this had on her and how she needed to grow up quickly in order to protect her younger sibling. Despite this, however, Amelie demonstrates that she can employ a positive approach when facing new situations as she has learned to draw strength from her traumatic experiences. Amelie describes how she has continually fought for what she wants in life and refuses to let negative experiences prevent her from achieving.
