ABSTRACT

This is the third of four chapters that present a range of strategies for further education teachers wishing to develop resilience. This chapter investigates possibilities for teachers to identify areas within their daily routines where change can occur and thus stressful situations can be more efficiently addressed. Utilising a paradigm of social comparison, the chapter explores the potential to learn from others through vicarious methods of resilience development, such as through supporting colleagues who are struggling or observing the resilience of others in demanding situations. Individual teachers can thus situate themselves within a structured support network, where the development of resilience becomes an interactional process.
