ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by explaining the funnel model of radicalization and how it can be applied to the incel community. We look at the process in which a person may become radicalized toward violence. We then look at the most common religious groups in the US and how they, and particularly their fundamentalist and conservative sects, look at the role of women in the church and society at large. While incels do not all proscribe to the same religion, or even any religion, they are likely influenced by religion in the culture and their own belief system can mimic religion. We then look at the role of technology and online communication and connection in the incel movement, which leads to a discussion of the proliferation of increasingly hardcore pornography online.
