ABSTRACT

In the Introduction, I briefly outline the aspirational approach to transformative education that I defend more comprehensively in the final four chapters of the book. After this, I then take up some potential reservations we might have concerning a “transformative” approach to education in general. In particular I pose three questions: Is transformation possible? Should education be transformative? And what is transformative education? In each of these discussions, which draw on recent work in ethics, moral psychology, and educational research, I deal with possible objections to the project of transformative education. In doing so, I am to provide a conceptual foundation for transformative education. In the final section, I provide a summary of the chapters to come.
