ABSTRACT

We as humans are having a profound effect on this vast cradle of life. Collectively we need to simultaneously learn to love and respect our ecological systems whilst rapidly mobilising all our knowledge to create carbon-neutral and regenerative cultures. Through science we now understand that our living systems and elements such as our oceans are the support system of our planet. Our education system can and, in our view, should support this understanding, though this needs to be underpinned by appropriate nature pedagogy, where learning and knowledge begin through experience in the body. This chapter focuses on the plant and animal kingdoms, part of the system that we share a closer kinship and relate to more easily.
