ABSTRACT

This chapter examines what we mean by a pedagogy for teaching and learning in nature and how it influences our worldview. We will explore how holistic development, the nature play cycle and place-attached practice are part of this pedagogy. Characteristics of nature pedagogy will be proposed. The chapter will finish by showing how working and integrating nature into our practice provides a holistic approach to learning and development. We will propose that spiritual development, indigenous ways of learning in and about nature and awareness of ‘power dynamics’ have relevance to today’s nature education practices.
