ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will examine several issues related to security in public libraries, including the deployment patterns of various security devices and the implementation of personnel policies. This material will be integrated with information on differences in security use as a function of selected institutional and community characteristics and the comparisons across the three national studies. When possible, the relationship between using security and the level of crime will be examined, and the reported major problems and “solutions” to these major concerns will be illustrated using the actual responses from library administrators.
