ABSTRACT

In the conclusions, the general goal of therapy for torture survivors is conceptualized. The true aim is to repair damage resulting from torture and other severe traumas, to the point that the person can feel a sense of living in their body again, experiencing a sense of agency and possibility to reflect, to take initiative, and to establish new relationships and social bonds. And the therapist’s role is also that of a witness serving to guard the epistemic and ethical truth about torture with therapy as reparation of a wound inflicted by the torture on the shared humanity of the therapist and the patient.
