ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how to develop different frameworks for case data, and explores traditional best practices for developing case structure. Long-established case writing institutes and centres have adapted their own best practices over time for structuring the case study. The Case Development Centre, based in the Netherlands, has a long track record for supporting case writing. The Case Development Centre, based at the Rotterdam School of Management, works closely with case writers to support the development of their own cases. Every case has some form of chronology or time structure that determines the sequence of events and the order within which things are reported. A common chronology structure in case writing, begins by introducing the issue that needs to be addressed by the readers, or the situation that has occurred in the organisation.
