ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the arguments for and against developing own teaching notes. ‘A teaching note is a document that accompanies a teaching case to help potential instructors gain insight into the case and achieve better usage of the case. The teaching note represents only one viewpoint and the author’s intended purpose for the case. The vast majority of cases that are available for global circulation to scholars tend to include teaching notes, which are often considered an essential hygiene factor for case adoption. The teaching note identifies how the case has already worked well in a class environment, and so future users can benefit from class feedback and the experiences of its original user. The chapter provides an opportunity for the author to incorporate suggestions of other key areas of reading that might accompany the case discussion.
