ABSTRACT

For as long as there have been management case studies, tutors have been using cases as tools for assessment. This chapter focuses on the different approaches to using cases for assessment. It discusses how to identify the right type of case for an assessment. The chapter discusses how best to appraise the contribution for assessment and includes suggestions for approaches towards group work and peer assessment. While the examination case does not normally provide an opportunity for a group discussion, students can be invited to take the position and perspective of an individual character from the case, from which to provide a response to a series of questions, which might normally have formed the basis for the discussion process.
