ABSTRACT

A case study is a distinct literary form. It is obviously not a poem. It is not purely a narrative, but it has important elements of narration. Every case study is different — in design, content, context, written style and purpose. Anybody who has had to undertake a case search will have no doubt found themselves overwhelmed with the different options and choices available to them. Most of the larger global case collections provide well-developed search engines that allow tutors to shortlist cases for review. The setting of the story that forms the context for the case can have a significant impact on learner motivation, case preparation and engagement. Shorter cases often tend to work better in the earlier part of a course as students develop a familiarity with the case method, during which a more inductive learning approach can be popular.
