ABSTRACT

‘Multimedia cases present a wonderful opportunity. They mirror the real world, where so much data can be included and students can engage in a more exploratory way to come up with endless new solutions’. The traditional mode of development for the case study is paper-based, but over the past 30 years there has been growth in the use of video and digital technologies to present case data in a range of different formats, to improve engagement with learners. Video cases provide opportunities for students to see and hear the key characters within the case and to get a better sense of the culture of the organisation as they are invited to virtually step into the organisation and see the physical environment of the employees’ workplace. ‘Video based cases provide a rich environment for providing a descriptive story of the situation under account. Videos cases present new opportunities for the tutor to consider how to ‘treat the data’.
