ABSTRACT

Male sexual dysfunction is best dealt with as a couple issue. The woman did not cause the problem, but as his intimate friend, she has an integral role in their regaining sexual comfort, confidence, and function. He is embarrassed about the sex problem, minimizing or even denying the dysfunction. He needs to take responsibility for his sexuality and turn toward her to rebuild sexual comfort and confidence.

He wants a pill which will guarantee perfect performance and is disappointed and frustrated that a stand-alone medical intervention can’t cure the sex problem. He needs to use all psychological, medical, behavioral, relational, and social resources to facilitate change. It is crucial to develop a relapse prevention plan to maintain and generalize sexual gains.
