ABSTRACT

Males and females have very different sexual socialization during young adulthood (ages 18–25). Experience with sexuality (whether dating or “hook-up”) can be healthy but is likely to be confusing or adversarial. Relational and sexual experiences can bring young adult men and women together or tear them apart. Identify healthy psychological, relational, and sexual learnings as well as confront compulsive, negative, guilt-inducing, or traumatic experiences. Identifying sexual strengths is important, but just as important is identifying and addressing sexual vulnerabilities. You cannot change the past, but you can and should learn from the past so you make “wise” sexual decisions in the future.
