ABSTRACT

One of the most critical responsibilities that managers have is to effectively utilize talent. Once an organization has done its workforce planning, defined the “right” workforce, identified the sources for attracting the talent required and selected the right people it is necessary to effectively utilize that talent. Since all components of the organization’s human resource management systems must be integrated into a coherent process the next step after selecting the right talent is to “onboard” the people. Employment attorneys advising organizations in the United States try to ensure new employee orientations emphasize that the organization follows the “employment at will” doctrine, that establishes the right of the organization to terminate employees at any time, for any reason, or for no reason. The organization’s culture should be one that facilitates employee acceptance and provides a setting conducive to performance. An organization’s policies should specify how the organization ensures compliance with laws and regulations, as well as how decisions should be made.
