ABSTRACT

Little Soldier Zhang Ga is a cinema animation jointly produced by the Beijing Film Academy, Beijing TV Station, Beijing Forbidden City Film Co. Ltd., Beijing Aiyi Meixun Animation Production Co. Ltd., and Youth Film Studio in 2005. It is also the first large-scale Chinese red classic cinema animated film in 15 years with a length of 90 minutes. It took six years to make the film, with an investment of CNY 12 million, more than 1,400 shots, 160,000 draft drawings, and the wisdom of more than 600 animators. It was China’s first animation created by an animation academy, which also pioneered the realism of Chinese animation theme. The film tells a story which happens during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. The film entirely uses cinematic language in artistic creation and strives for excellence in the expression of characters’ detailed performances. Little Soldier Zhang Ga can fundamentally represent the highest level of Chinese animation creation in recent years.
