ABSTRACT

In 1980, the Hong Kong Film Culture Center hosted a screening of Japanese classic-animated short films, inviting famous animators Taku Furukawa and Renzo Kinoshita and his wife to visit Hong Kong. This was very inspiring for the development of Hong Kong animation at that time. Jade Animation Ltd produced Hong Kong’s first TV-animated film Professor Panda Says, and the subsequent animation The Little Wukong. The animation industry in Hong Kong was creative but lacked production staff. At that time, many mainland animators were trained. Many animators are now self-reliant and have set up animation production companies, continuing to create animations. The animation Older Master Q was filmed in 1981, directed by Hu Shuru. In the following year, the animation Older Master Q Part 2 was released. Although the two films were produced in Hong Kong, the main creators, including Cai Mingqin and Yan Youxiang, were from Taiwan.
