ABSTRACT

After the reforms, with the improvement of people's living standards, new changes have taken place in audience's interest and demand. After the founding of New China, China’s animation developed for a long time under the planned economy system. Animated films applied to the same operating system as feature films, documentaries, and science and education films. From the late 1980s to the late 1990s, Chinese animation experienced a complex and changing stage of development and formed a new style. In regard to the theme, the animators tried to integrate the temperament and connotation of Chinese culture into the animation and inherited the aesthetic concept of Chinese traditional culture and art In the 1980s and 1990s, because of the high pay, many senior animation talents who used to work in state-owned animation enterprises, including some high-level employees at the Shanghai Animation Film Studio, were attracted to work at overseas wholly owned or joint-stock animation companies which emerged in Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing.
