ABSTRACT

Translation is a craft that requires two very different skill sets: deconstruction and reconstruction. This practical guide therefore aims to help readers to develop both a reflective critical awareness and creative writing skills and to consider the role of time, context and culture in literary-type texts. To make it easier to identify key features in the source text, a practical model has been designed, alerting translators to the criteria they need to consider in their analysis.

In the creative strand of the book, we adopt a craft-based approach, with various practical tasks designed to instil stylistic awareness and develop the translator’s role as a creative or semi-creative writer.
