ABSTRACT

This chapter describes narratives as cognitive structures that consist of a sequence of temporally and logically connected events. While narratives are in the mind they manifest themselves as narrative texts, such as books, films, or newspaper articles. The chapter discusses a range of examples of narratives of different kinds from children’s stories to economics narratives that have the potential to shift the basis of our economic system. The chapter concludes with the search for new narratives to live by, which can come from traditional or indigenous cultures across the world or by using creative writing to tell new stories.
