ABSTRACT
This chapter addresses the substance of the contract, namely the scope of work. It discusses how to establish what exactly the Contractor has been asked to build and the difficulties that may arise in doing that. In particular, it looks at the issues that arise as a result of offshore construction contracts being a complex mix of legal and technical engineering language. The chapter also considers the relevant principles of English contract law that will assist in interpreting such contracts.
