ABSTRACT

Dreams most often come to us in the form of images, sometimes incredibly rich in detail and complexity. When we wake up, we usually try to capture our dreams by making a story out of them. However, this human tendency to form a narrative to make sense of our experience does not always do justice to the dream, and sometimes truly alters it. Visual art speaks a language that is closer to dreaming, so it is often helpful to ask our clients to depict their dreams by sketching or painting them, and in the process, new information and insight often emerges. This chapter offers examples of how and why one might work with dreams visually and concludes with a look at dream depiction of the future.
