ABSTRACT

Though memories of servanthood were found to be insufficient, there are different memories from within Christian tradition which may fund this act of prophetic imagination in relation to ecclesial leadership. Particularly Ray S. Anderson’s doctoral work under T.F. Torrance (published as Historical Transcendence and the Reality of God) presents a theology of incarnation which founds the possibility of life in the Spirit and, relatedly, of the apprehension of the reality of God. This chapter explores that theology, emphasising the significance of the incarnation not only for understanding divine transcendence as an intra-divine active personal reality but also as the basis for a community of inter-relatedness between God and humanity.
