ABSTRACT

Increasing understanding of the importance of medical history is proved by the fact that in almost all medical books devoted to different branches of medicine the introduction deals with a historical outlook. The most important fact that influenced in a remarkable measure the development of medicine was the political and social condition of Europe. Wilhelm Rontgen’s discovery and its applications gave to the new developments of medicine a new direction on a solid foundation. Biochemistry is, among all branches of medicine, the one in which the most significant progress has been achieved, and its revelations have had a direct influence on the conception and treatment of disease. The multiple bonds of medicine with other sciences, which have found practical expression in university teaching as well as in actual practice, constitute an important factor in the ever increasing penetration of medical knowledge among widespread classes of the population.
